Q2: What is the constraining motive with Othello in killing Desdemona?

  1. Othello, even though he loves Desdemona, loves his power and his pride more than anything. During the play, we see the character changing by the influence of Iago on him, making him question what he should do. He thinks killing Desdemona is the only way of getting people's respect back, since people are starting to think that he has been cheated on. By the end of the play, Othello is blinded by the thought of being deceived and kills his wife, proving that his pride is what he loves the most.
